Editing your page
The editor’s sections, the live preview and how your changes are saved.
Open My pages and press Edit on a page. The editor shows your page as visitors will see it while you change it.
The tabs at the top
- Overview: the page at a glance.
- Edit: everything on the page, in the sections below.
- Layout: how the page is arranged, and its colour. See Choosing a layout.
- Analytics: your page’s statistics. See Page statistics.
- Badges: which badges the page shows. See Badges.
- Social preview: how the link looks when it is shared. See Social preview.
The top bar also has the Public and Private choice and Open page.
The sections of Edit
- Profile: the name on the page (up to 60 characters) and your bio (up to 300 characters). Your photo shows here; you change it in Media.
- Aliases: the addresses that open this page.
- Media: your photo, your background and the sound behind your page. While a file's effects are open, the file stays at the top so you see each change as you scroll through them.
- Blocks: what your page shows, as a list you can drag to reorder. See Adding blocks.
- Visibility: who can see and find your page: public or private, Explore, and the public counts.
- Badges: the badges your page shows.
- Settings: the layout, your account and deleting this page.
How your changes are saved
Most changes wait for you: nothing changes for visitors until you press Save changes. As soon as something differs from what is saved, a bar slides up at the bottom with Save changes and Discard. It names what is waiting, like "Not saved yet: your name and blocks", and reminds you that visitors still see your page as last saved. Discard puts those changes back. This covers the name and bio, Public or Private, the Explore settings, the public counts, the account number, media effects and blocks.
Some things save at once, because they cannot wait: uploading or removing a photo, a background or a sound, switching layouts, everything in Aliases, and a link added with Add link. Add link saves only that link: anything else you changed in your blocks still waits for Save changes. Discard leaves these as they are, and its dialog lists the ones you made during this visit.
After you save, the bar says "Saved and live" for a moment (or "Saved" while your page is private), then goes away. It also goes away when you discard, or when you put a value back the way it was. If saving fails, the bar says why. If you try to leave with unsaved changes, the editor asks you to save or discard them first, and closing the tab or reloading asks too.
Common mistakes
- Closing the tab without saving: your browser asks first, but if you leave anyway your edits are lost. Watch for the bar at the bottom.
- Making the page public but forgetting Save changes: in the editor, the switch only takes effect when you save.
- A field marked in red stops the whole save. Fix it and press Save changes again.
