Dashboard and pages
Public and private pages
Who can see your page, and what changes when you make it public or private.
Private pages
Every new page starts public, and you can switch it to private any time. A private page answers visitors with the same “not found” page as an address nobody has, so nobody can tell it exists. Only you can open it while you are logged in. A private page is never listed in Explore, cannot be followed, and has no social preview picture.
Public pages
A public page can be opened by anyone with its address, logged in or not. Making it public does not put it in Explore: listing it there is a separate choice.
Switching between them
- On Home: the Public and Private switch saves at once. A message confirms it, with Undo.
- In the editor: the Public and Private choice in the top bar waits for Save changes, like everything else you edit there. Until you save, the bar tells you what visitors will see.
Other reasons a page is not shown
- The account that owns it is banned. See Removals and bans.
- The address was mistyped, or it was an extra address that ran out. See Page addresses and aliases.
